Iran May Occupy Our Time But We Can't Occupy Iran

“Gene Lyons: Plenty of time to go to war with Iran” is supportive of the Iranian deal or the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action” but there are some assumptions he states that give a false impression of Iran and the threat it continues to pose. The President is quoted as saying, “…we could knock out their [Iranian] military with speed and dispatch…” which is false, Iran is too large a nation with too large an army to easily or speedily invade or control for long. Iran is interested in trade to fund its territorial ambitions and placate their oppressed public while it develops a missile, which can carry a nuclear warhead. Mr. Lyons correctly states, “This deal isn’t the end. But it’s an excellent beginning…” yet Iran’s delay of going nuclear may more symbolically important based on its missile program. Iranian desire to expand its influence through proxy war and invasion is immediate and must be stymied with a containment policy that pushes Iran out of Arab Gulf states and the Levant because peace in our time is never enough, we must consider the future.  The US needs to clear about what it can do to combat Iran and take the right military and political policies to ensure Iran can no longer be a terror state long term. The nuclear agreement must be treated soberly; it is only as good as our next actions.
